Since 2019, I have been working on a Tree Wisdom series. My vision is to bring artwork into the world, that is ceremonially co-created with the tree spirits themselves. In this process, I offer my eyes and hands to the trees and invite them to communicate through the creative journey I embark on.
Each image is designed to act as a portal that allows the observer to directly connect with the essence of a particular tree spirit.
Printed on paper or cotton canvas, these pictures can be used as sacred altar decorations and totemic art for ceremonial spaces.
>> The Yew Tree - Tree Wisdom Banner:
Powerful lessons and valuable teachings from the yew trees have been woven into the picture. The Tree Wisdom Banner series is designed to bring different tree energies into people's homes and sacred spaces.
This picture has been ceremonially co-created with the spirit of the yew tree. It acts as a portal, which is also visually represented in the artwork itself.
The Yew trees in Europe are amongst the oldest living organisms we have around us. They embody the vastness of time and space and allow us to see our daily concerns reflected in mirrors of a much bigger picture.
When in communion with the yew, we can experience inner death and rebirth in profound and healing ways. The yew trees remind us of our mortality so that we can live more fully.
Establishing a relationship with Yew trees helps us step out of our overly individualised mindset for a moment and see how we belong to a web of people that is a direct and ongoing extension of our ancestors.
Ancestry doesn't just stop with the remembered dead. It stretches all the way back through the millennia to prehistory, the animal kingdom and the first single-celled organisms in the primordial oceans.
The spring in this picture represents the ancient yew grove at the red spring in Glastonbury. The stag skull represents our ancestor's ceremonies of around the sacred hunt and their belief in endless cycles of death and rebirth.
